Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Dumb: The Game?
- It's an online puzzle collection. The puzzles come in a huge variety of different types, but they have a few things in common. They all consist of a picture, some text, or both, and the solution to each puzzle is always a single word or number. However, the things you have to do figure out that word or number are all over the map! You may need to know some trivia (or Google it), solve some logic puzzle, work out a visual trick, solve a riddle, manipulate an image, use the internet somehow, or countless other things. We try to put as many different types of puzzles in as possible. Some puzzles might require skills you simply don't have, so be sure to get help from friends and neighbors!
- It's free? What's the catch?
- The catch should be obvious... the ads! The more ads you click on, the more obscenely filthy rich I get! Ahahaha!!! If that's not enough of a catch for you, please click the More Fun Games link on the left and buy some of my non-free PC and Mac games!
- How do I solve a certain puzzle?
- Well, we're obviously not going to tell you that! Visit the Discussion Forum to find hints from your fellow players. No spoilers are allowed though! Here's one hint some people don't notice: the title of the puzzle is almost always a very significant hint. The picture is also usually a key even when it seems to just be something abstract. Use all the information you're given! Also, use Google. Both for information and for maps! You'll need both to get through all these puzzles alive. If a puzzle is asking for someone's name, you should answer with the last name. The answer is always a single word or number, never something like 2 words smooshed together (i.e. "campbell", not "brucecampbell").
- What is 'DQ'?
- DQ stands for your Dumbness Quotient. It's kind of like your IQ, except it only pertains to your ability to solve these puzzles. It's actually the sum of the difficulty ratings of all puzzles you have solved. So just solve more puzzles and your DQ will rise! You may be tempted to rate puzzles highly so that your DQ will be higher. Don't do that - it will raise your DQ (infinitesimally!), but it helps everyone else who's ever solved the puzzle equally, so you're not really making any progress! And those difficulty ratings are a really nice way for people to gauge the puzzles before spending their coins, so don't mess it up!
- I don't want to give out my email address!
- That's not a question, but it certainly is a legitimate concern. Don't be worried! Your email address is collected by this site for only three uses: first, we send out a verification when you sign up, to verify that you're real and prevent people from making a bunch of accounts (well, a bunch with one email, anyway). Second, if you ever forget your password, we can reset the password via email. Third, if you check the box in the Profile menu that says "Notify me of new puzzles" (which is not checked by default, tough guy!), then you'll receive an email when new puzzles become available.
Your email address is not ever used for anything else! I hate spam!
- I'm out of coins, and can't solve any of the puzzles I have unlocked!
- Still not a question. Go to our Discussion Forum and get hints to help you on those puzzles. And once you finally do get one done, unlock some puzzles with lower difficulty ratings next time!
- I have an idea for a puzzle!
- We really have to talk about this 'asking questions' thing. But nonetheless, it's very draining trying to come up with these puzzles and run Hamumu Software (Your #1 source of Dumb games for PC and Mac!) at the same time. So please do send us your ideas or better yet, fully developed puzzles! You can send them by email to ideas@dumbthegame.com. Please include the answer (and an explanation of how it's obtained!) in your email, maybe with some spoiler space. Contrary to popular belief, I am not good at solving puzzles!
- Can you help with some sort of problem I am having?
- That really depends... but if it has to do with this site, I'd be happy to! Send an email to support@dumbthegame.com to request any help you may need. Don't ask for help solving the puzzles though, you won't get it from me!
- A certain puzzle is not accepting my solution that I know is correct!
- You may just be wrong, or misspelling it. If the puzzle is asking for a person's name, use their last name only. If you're sure that your answer should be accepted, send an email to support@dumbthegame.com, letting us know which puzzle it is, and what answer it's not accepting. Each puzzle can accept multiple solutions, so if yours is really valid, we can add it to the list.
